  • Tree Care Pledge

  • By accepting a tree(s) through the Redmond Tree Giveaway Program, I agree to the following commitments to ensure the health and longevity of my tree(s):

    • Proper Tree Placement:
I agree to call 811 to identify the location of underground utilities for my tree(s) location, selected tree species appropriate for my location, considered the mature tree size, and ensure that the tree(s) have adequate space to grow without interference from structures, other plants, or utilities.
    • Planting Date:
To the best of my ability, I will plant my tree(s) in the ground– not in a pot or other type of planter within a month of receiving them. If I am unable to get it planted within one week, I will regularly water the tree(s) until planting is possible. At the latest, I will plant the tree(s) by February of 2027.
    • Watering and Mulch:
I will water my tree(s) regularly and apply one bag of mulch around the base of my tree(s) immediately upon planting.
    • Pruning and Long-term Maintenance:
For the entire lifespan of the tree(s), I will regularly care for the tree(s) and inspect my tree(s) for any signs of disease, pests, or dead branches. If necessary, I will seek professional help for pruning and maintenance to ensure the tree(s) long-term health.
    • Restrictions:
I agree to plant the tree(s) at the address provided in my application for the Tree Giveaway Program. I understand that the tree(s) may not be sold or be used to meet landscaping (RZC 21.32) and replacement tree (per RZC 21.72.080) requirements.
    • Instructional Video:
I agree to watch this instructional video on proper tree planting techniques and will follow the guidance provided to ensure the tree(s) are planted correctly.
    • Tree Health Checkups:
You grant the City of Redmond permission to send you a "tree health checkup" email message once per year asking if your tree(s) are still alive. It will require only a yes or no reply. This check-up will help us monitor our impact and plan future Redmond programs and offerings.

Additional care and planting information can be found at the Tree Giveaway Program webpage.
